CARE
All wool and alpaca items can be washed in the same manner you would clean a wool sweater:
Hand wash in cold water using a mild detergent and/or vinegar
Gently squeeze and lay flat to dry
Some longer haired sheep are susceptible to bed head (just like us). To refresh your throws that might get matted after extended use, simply give them a firm shake, and gently comb with your fingers (or a wide tooth comb). Some shedding may occur while brushing. Especially with longer haired sheep.
You can also give your fleece a snow bath. This is the old nordic method of washing wool. You’ll be surprised at how well it works.
CRUELTY-FREE?
Sheep are shorn by farmers annually. Usually twice a year in the Spring and the Fall. Not just to harvest their wool, but to access their health (it can be hard to see a sheep’s body under all that wool)! In the Summer it can also get uncomfortably hot for sheep. We take the raw fleece from their annual shearings and piece it back together using various felting techniques.
Traditional pelts have leather (skin) on the back of the fleece. Hence the name sheepskin. These are dead animals. No animals are harmed via our method of production.
CUSTOM ORDERS
Need a specific size or shape? We take custom orders. These items however cannot be returned, and sometimes include an additional fee. Essentially, we let the natural size and shape of the fleece when it comes off the animal dictate what we make. However, we’re totally capable of piecing together chunks of fleece to make whatever size or shape you need. It often just takes more time…
USAGE
Large felted fleeces can be used as rugs - however, you’ll want to use a pad underneath (as you would with any wool rug) to prevent it from sliding around on hardwood floors. Smaller fleeces are more suitable for the seat of a chair, an ottoman, a basket or stroller liner, etc. Visit the gallery for inspiration on how to use your fleece at home.
